轉貼 WYKPSA News - Walkathon 2009
As most of you are aware, this year's is our Mother School's 85th birthday. In order to celebrate the big day, WYK, WYKPSA, WYOFF, WYHK and WYHKPSA have formed a Steering Committee to organise a series of celebration events from October 2009 to July 2010. The first activity is the Walkathon.
If you recall, the first ever Walkathon we had was in 2007 which was used to raise funding for Wah Yan One Family Foundation to realise the dream of Wah Yan's. This year, we will walk again but the main purpose is to celebrate birthdays! The Walkathon will be held on 18th October, 2009 and similar to 2007, we will walk from WYK to WYHK and will take Star Ferry to cross the harbour. In addition to the programs we will have at WYK during the Opening ceremony and before the walk kicks off, i.e., singing, dancing and other performance, this time we will have a Fun Fair at WYHK. There will be a lot of game booths, demonstrations and food & drinks provided to all participants at WYHK. Our Chief Executive, Mr. Donald Tsang, will again be our official guest of honour to officiate the event.
Here is the link to WYOFF"s website that you will find the enrolment form for your reference.

轉貼 WYKPSA News - WYK Homecoming Concert 2009 (5 Sep)
The 2nd Homecoming Concert has been set for 6:15 p.m. Saturday, September 5, at WYK School Hall organized by WYK Past Students Association and co-organized by the Music Association and WYK Parents Association.
Our Homecoming Concert this year will also kick-start the 85th Anniversary celebration of Wah Yan College, Kowloon. Naturally, our theme for the concert will be "Our Music Throughout the Years". How has music changed throughout the years at WYK? From hymns to incorporation of instruments and varied styles performed by old boys and current students, we revisited the sounds of the various eras in a music concert on a Saturday summer night. The performance is meaningful to current and former students because it gives former students the opportunity to share memories of their experiences with the current students and also create new memories for the current ones. It's a concert for every Wahyanite to connect to the past while renewing friendships and building for the future.
All proceeds from the concert will be donated to Fr. Kelly Educational Fund. Proceeds from this concert will be used to support the development of the musical talent of the current WYK students. That includes certain instruments & equipments and payment for external conductors/trainers which the teachers and students have for long desired.
Taking this opportunity, we are requesting the honor of your presence at this concert. If you will sponsor this concert by making further donation, not only are you granting great endorsement on the efforts of the performing students, teachers, and alumni, you are also making the dreams of the music students and teachers possible.
With Best Wishes,
Mike Cheng '86
Chairman
Organizing Committee
P.S. We have just been informed by the WYK administrative office that the Homecoming Concert is overwhelmingly well received by the current students. All the regular HK20 student tickets have been sold out in school. To facilitate your purchase of the VIP tickets and supporting the event, we have attached a Sponsorship Form for your perusal.

轉貼 WYKPSA News - 85th/90th School Anniversaries Programmes
Dear Wahyanites,
I am very pleased to inform you the 2 Wah Yan will celebrate their 85th/90th anniversaries this year. There are 3 programmes scheduled for union and sharing of joy, namely a Walkathon on 18th October 2009 (our CE will be officiating), a Gratitude Dinner in December 2009 and a Night of Performing Arts, finale of our celebration, on in July 2010.
Over the years, our Jesuit Fathers, teachers and staff had been developing the potentiality of each and every Wahyanite, with a focus on Christian moral values and individuality. Distinctively, Jesuit education is committed to training dutiful leaders and "men for and with others" to serve and contribute to Hong Kong and beyond. You will also concur on the fact that brotherhood and selfless care is essentially the spirit of Wah Yan.
The New Senior Secondary School curriculum (NSS) being launched in September 2009 will put more weights on the provision of more subjects and other learning experiences for students. In order to help our boys and teachers stand the test of this challenge and keep up with our heritage, the 2 Schools have taken some immediate measures such as the implementation of small class teaching at S1-S3, provision of professional psychological services, hiring additional qualified English and Putonghua teachers and teacher development programmes abroad. We would not have achieved these new heights without the zealous support of dedicated alumni and friends of Wah Yan like you.
Looking ahead, we would like to sustain these measures and are planning to introduce more language education and other learning experiences, hire more expatriate teachers and provide further teacher development programme. These measures and plans are imperative for the continuous growth of our young Wahyanites in the new curriculum.
Our celebration rendezvous will enable our fellow alumni, friends, teachers, students and parents to experience again the unity and genuine love for each other. It is also the best opportunity to render support to your Alma Mater. I am therefore appealing to you for attendance, sponsorship and other forms of support. Please contact me or the Heads of the individual events if you need further information. We look forward to welcoming you at all of the 3 events.
With best wishes,
Rev. Fr. Stephen Chow, S.J.

I have just received the attached letter from Cheung Chung Pan. This is his first personally written letter to us. Please kindly distribute through your respective networks. The previous letters were written by his mother.
Mr. Matthew Chu and I have just visited him at E-Da Hospital. We are happy to report that Chung Pan is preparing for his return to Hong Kong. Some of his wounds are still open and there is still remanent of the infection. However, the Director of the hospital who is Chung Pan's attending doctor judges that Chung Pan can return to Hong Kong shortly for follow up treatments at Queen Mary's Hospital.
This is the Easter Season. Let us rejoice! Let us continue in keeping Chung Pan and his family in our prayers and unfailing support. He still has some distance to travel before a functional recovery.

1. Marathon 2009
Our Marathon Team has got 146 members now. The final clinic on 11 Jan was attended by over 80 members. Pictures of the session had been uploaded at http://www.wahyanonefamily.org/photo20090111.html. Moreover, Oriental Daily News has launched a full page report on our Dream Campaign and the Marathon today. (...... which will be uploaded together with other clippings this eve).
With regard to fundraising, we have received approx HK$700,000 thus far. Now if we want to build running a ritual in Wah Yan, we need to support these 140 pioneers to lead and sustain the drive. We are $1.3 million adrift of our $2 million goal now. And we are only 2 weeks away from our Race on 8 Feb 2009.
Therefore, may I appeal to you again to make a gift to support these lovely Wahyanites please? If we could get $30,000 (certainly the more the merrier) each from 40 supportive alumni/friends of Wah Yan like you and your classes, we will make it for the Team. You will keep these forerunners and our Dream going.
